My Surprising Deep Work Playlist Recommendations I Guarantee You've Never Heard Of
I’m a huge music buff. From a young age, I used to skim through my parent's old 8tracks and albums, introducing me to classic rock and the oldies. Similarly, I grew up around old Italian music and even opera so that expanded my horizons to the likes of Luciano Pavarotti.
As I got older, I listened to cassettes on my Walkman. My favorites being Spice Girls, Ace of Base and…. Alvin and the Chipmunks. Once CDs got more popular, I would peruse music stores for hours with my first CDs being Britney Spears, *Nsync, Madonna “Ray of Light, Blink182 “Take off Your Pants and Jacket”, Cher “Believe”, Metallica “The Black Album”, 50 Cent “Get Rich or Die Tryin’”, AC/DC “Back in Black” and so many others.
Of course, once iTunes came around, it was game over for me. In that era, new music would drop every Tuesday. I’d listen to snippets of songs from various artists, going down rabbit holes daily.
My music taste expanded even more with skateboard videos and learning about artists you wouldn’t hear on the radio or were popular then. I’m pretty proud of my eclectic music taste and love sharing it with others.
I struggle with focusing while I work which is a story for another day. Something that often helps is throwing on some jazz music to get into a flow. My favorite jazz playlist is a compilation inspired by Cowboy Bebop (the OG animation, not the live-action travesty!). Cowboy Bebop is a 90s Japanese animation series consisting of only 26 episodes, yet it has had an incredible impact on entertainment, culture, and the animation industry. Even if you’re not into “anime”, I highly suggest checking it out for the artistic direction alone. Jazz and funk music make up pretty much the entire series, which I find adds to the show's ambiance.
So check out this Cowboy Bebop Spotify playlist and let me know your thoughts. If that isn’t quite your speed, I’ve been listening to Travis Scott’s “Utopia” on repeat lately for deep work as well.
Will certainly be sharing more of my music recs here in the future.
